Uneligible Bachelor

Rear 3 quarter

Recently I came to know about one of my friend's predicament while he was trying to get a driver's license in Kuwait. When I asked him why he didn't have a license he informed me that hes not eligible for one! Hes a Chartered Accountant (CA) with multiple certifications, worked in world renowned Audit firms, currently works for one of the largest banks in Kuwait in a managerial position and makes around 1.5K a month. So why isn't he eligible ? Coz hes not a graduate. The rules here state that a person has to be a college graduate with a minimum salary of 400 KD to apply for a driver's license.

As I see it now my friend has two options;

1. Go back to college to get a basic degree
2. Forfeit his present designation and get a Driver's visa

Anyone with a better option can leave a comment.

Oh maan...tats crazy.

But this is Kuwait n one must understand....tat things dont work with 'logic' in this part of the world.

My sympathies to ur friend.

PS: Of course, there is yet another option n tat is vitamin 'W'.

Being a CA and not a degree holder? What is going on these days!!!

Jonyboy: yeah its crazy. He is too idealistic to try vitamin 'W' :P

Anon: what does being a CA and degree holder have to do anything? Its not a 'degree' like you have a BSc or BA. Its a professional qualification given as a Diploma.

New applicants for Kuwait driving licenses must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a resident of Kuwait for a period of 2 years prior to the application.
2. Hold a university degree
3. Earn a minimum salary of KD 400.

However, the following categories are exempt from these regulation.

Housewives with children; doctors; professors; teachers; nursing staff; translators and interpreters; accountants; managers; counsellors; journalists; company heads; university students; technical staff; engineers; all diplomatic staff.

Now, if your friend's Izn Amal (Work Permit) states that he really is Manager, then he is exempted from the above-mentioned 3 criteria & shouldn't face any problem. Hope this helps.

OR... given that he is working for a renowned bank at a respectable position, it would be rather naive to assume that there is no one on his office floor with a family name of certain significance or a relative in one of the govt. offices.

A chit from such a person would make the job a hell lot easier.

Dikhaawon pe mat jaao.. apni akal ladao.

Sprite.... bujhaaye only pyaas.. baaki sab bakwaas.

Him being too idealistic to use THIS.. well .. err... Boy he needs a reality check.

It's good to have principles. Most admirable. BUT there should be exceptions to the rule. It's just not realistic to be idealistic about everything.

All the best to your friend.

Cheers, mate.

Another possible alternative to your friend. Kind of a work around but might help.

Pulling rank.

Walk up to one of the mandoobs and hand him the paper work and tell him to get the learner license done.

Once there is a No Objection stamp on that, all he would have to do is clear the test.

Mandoobs have a way of getting things done. And since your FRIEND technically doesn't know how the mandoob got it done - he hasn't compromised on his principles.

Plausible deniability

Ignorance............ is bliss.

Hi Lordraj, yeah my friend will most probably have to shell out some moolah to get it done. I'll ask him to read your advice, nice one :)
